About this artwork Canaletto, an Italian painter from the Republic of Venice, was particularly known for his cityscapes of Venice, Rome, and London. He made numerous paintings of the Grand Canal in Venice, such as 'The Rialto Bridge from the North'. The Rialto area was one of the earliest parts of Venice to be inhabited and has continually functioned as the city's commercial hub. Its bridge was initially built out of wood before it was reconstructed in 1590 with a striking stone structure that spanned 28 meters.
