Our inflatable kayaks are a relatively stable boat for participants new to river running. This allows our IK classes to spend time on the river beginning on Day 1. Day 1 will begin with a briefing on basic river features and river safety. Then we will assign gear, and cover the basics of fitting and caring for whitewater gear. From there we will head straight to the Animas River! We will start on a slow moving, flat section, and introduce the basics of the forward stroke, draw stroke, and sweep stroke. We will use these skills while running some small, fun whitewater. We can then introduce water reading and river maneuvers such as the ferry, peel out, and eddy turn. Day 2 will begin by heading straight to the Animas. We will be able to run a longer, and slightly more challenging section than the day before. While we travel down river, we will continue to refine our strokes and river maneuvering. All gear, transportation, and lunches will be provided with this class.
