ISA Board Certified Master Arborist®

"The ISA Board Certified Master Arborist® credential is the highest level of certification offered by ISA. This credential recognizes ISA Certified Arborists® who have reached the pinnacle of their profession. In addition to passing an extensive scenario-based exam, candidates must abide by a Code of Ethics, which ensures quality of work. Fewer than two percent of all ISA Certified Arborists® currently hold this certification.


To be eligible for the exam, you must be an ISA Certified Arborist in good standing and have a sufficient amount of any or all of the following:

- Measurable experience
- Formal education
- Related credentials
- Professional experience"

ISA Certified Arborist ®

"Professional Recognition – This is the proof – the ISA Certified Arborist designation sets you apart as someone with the commitment, dedication, and knowledge to succeed. Our most popular credential, the ISA Certified Arborist program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute, meeting and exceeding ISO 17024.


To earn an ISA Certified Arborist credential, you must be trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of arboriculture. ISA Certified Arborists must also adhere to the Code of Ethics that strengthens the credibility and reliability of the workforce. To be eligible for the ISA Certified Arborist exam, you must have one or both of the following:

- Three or more years of full-time, eligible, practical work experience in arboriculture
- A degree in the field of arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, or forestry from a regionally accredited educational institute"

ISA Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist®

"ISA Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist® credential holders are current ISA Certified Arborists® who have chosen municipal arboriculture or urban forestry as a career path. For this credential, you will be tested on the areas of public relations, administration, risk management, policy, and planning as they pertain to municipal arboriculture.


To be eligible for the exam, you must be an ISA Certified Arborist and have the a minimum of three additional years of work experience managing the establishment and maintenance of urban trees." -ISA

ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist®

"This certification is for tree workers who specialize in climbing work. To become certified as an ISA Tree Worker Climber Specialist, you must have the skill and endurance to climb trees, demonstrate strong knowledge of safe work practices, and be able to get the job done off the ground. For this credential, you will be tested in both a classroom setting and a field setting.


To be eligible for the exam, you must have the following:

- Eighteen months of climbing experience in arboriculture
- Current training in a physical (practice) aerial rescue, CPR, and First Aid"

ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified

"ISA offers the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) as an instructor-led credential that demonstrates professional knowledge in tree risk assessment through participation in a training course and passing its accompanying exam. The TRAQ program offers tree care professionals the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the fundamentals of tree risk assessment by learning a standardized, systematic process for assessing tree risk and providing information to tree owners and risk managers for making informed decisions that will promote the safety of people and property and enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity. Through education and training, arborists will learn strategies to systematically identify and assess tree risk.


The qualified professional will:

- be proficient with the fundamentals of limited-visual and basic tree risk assessment, as defined in ISA’s Best Management Practices: Tree Risk Assessment;
understand the principles of advanced diagnostic techniques for assessing tree risk;
- gather and synthesize information needed to assess tree risk; and
make reasoned judgments and recommendations for mitigating identified risk."
